Any of the CD's which have the Adobe logo; for example Doherty's and Tree Talks will run on a regular Mac. The windows CD's which are the majority of those we stock, will only work if the Mac has a special program to run Windows material. How do I install or reinstall an AncestryView CD? ANSWER To install any of the Ancestry View CDs, please follow the simple steps outlined below. Note: We (Ancestry.com) no longer provide support for these data CDs. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. These discs were designed for Windows version 3.1 which is outdated and may not function well on versions after Windows 98. The instructions are here as a reference only. Outside of this, no other support is offered. Closing all programs To ensure that your CD installs properly, you may want to consider performing a clean install. Here is how to do it: 1. Close all open programs 2. Once all programs are closed and you have a clear desktop, proceed by selecting the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete buttons simultaneously* 3. After Ctrl, Alt and Delete are selected, the Close Program window should appear 4. Close all programs except for Explorer and Systray by selecting them with your mouse and then selecting End Task† 5. Once all programs are closed except for Systray and Explorer, proceed with the installation
*Make
sure to only press this key combination once; doing this twice will restart your
computer. To install this CD, you must be running Windows 95 or 98. (Windows NT is currently incompatible with Ancestry View, though most configurations of Windows 2000 are compatible.) If you are running Windows 2000, ME, XP, or Vista you may need to use Reverse Compatibility Mode to install your CDs. Click here to view information on using this mode to install your CDs.
