Records, Town of Rhinebeck, New York | 1799–1863
Dutchess County
The original volume from which this book was transcribed has seen long periods of inactivity. Its record was apparently begun in 1799 when the institution of slavery was gradually coming to an end in Rhinebeck. Sometime prior to February 1818, the book was flipped over and a record of stray cattle was begun and added to until November 1863. In that time period only three pages of data was recorded. In 1847, the book was turned sideways and the state mandated vital records were recorded and continued through the end of 1849.
The original book is currently housed in the Local History room of the local Starr Library
in Rhinebeck.
